East Tennessee State University (ETSU) is a public university located in Johnson City, Tennessee. As with previous responses, please note that my knowledge is current up to September 2021, and some information may have changed since then.
1. History: ETSU was founded in 1911 as the East Tennessee State Normal School, focusing on training teachers. In 1925, it became the East Tennessee State Teachers College, and in 1943, it was renamed East Tennessee State College. The institution gained university status in 1963, becoming East Tennessee State University.
